Dracula

Adapted by Steven Dietz
from the novel by Bram Stoker

Before there was Twilight, before there was Anne Rice, there was Dracula, the father of all vampire horror stories. Steven Dietz’s version revisits many of the themes in the original Bram Stoker novel usually forgotten about, the sensuality, the secrecy, and the religion that make Dracula a legend. Directed by Roger Winn, this show is to die for!

Playing Friday and Saturday after the sun has set (7:30pm) from October 16th through Halloween.
Plus a special performance Thursday, October 29th at 7:30pm.

Tickets $12-16 Get your tickets here!

Reviews for Dracula

Review by Holly Bartges of Colorado Backstage

With its current production of Dracula by Steven Dietz, Lakewood’s The E Project enters the theatre competitive world. It’s on its way to becoming a major contender along side of other strong small theatres in the Metro arena. Now under the [artistic] direction by Michael Emmitt, The E project enticed Roger Winn to direct Dracula.

Winn and the extraordinary cast claims Dracula as its own. It’s breathtaking, scary enough for one young girl to bring a stuffed tiger for comfort. Her mother, connected with The E Project, warned her, and she came prepared. At one point, I even considered asking her if I could borrow the cuddly tiger. From the look of her pretty face during Intermission, I decided she needed it far more than I did.

I certainly didn’t need the stuffed tiger, but fell under the hypnotic atmosphere permeating the theatre, something that’s never happened with any other production of Dracula. The E Project’s production of Dracula is a must see, not just because it is Halloween, but also because it is masterfully produced by a theatre not known, yet, for masterful productions.

Review by David Marlowe

There is a good production of Steven Dietz’s Dracula over at The E
Project on West Colfax. Mr. Dietz’s script is one of the best
translations of Bram Stoker’s novel to the stage that this reviewer
has been fortunate to see. Roger Winn’s direction is superb. At times
there are three separate tableaux unfolding simultaneously. There are
a number of very good performances in Mr. Winn’s erotically charged
version of the show. Dale Li gives a superb performance as the Count.
Mr. Li manages to create a hypnotic effect with his eyes and slow
measured stage movements, which gives the illusion of the overpowering
of his prey a realism lacking in some productions. Johnny Morehouse
provides a thoroughly well delivered portrayal of Harker. George Peele
steals the show as Renfield. His performance of this character is the
most manically energetic one may ever hope to see. There is lots of
squirting gore in this production, and those in the first rows of this
intimate venue would be well advised to prepare for a possible
sprinkling. Because of the superb performances by the three actors
mentioned above, the acting provided by other members of the cast
tends to appear pale in comparison. Nevertheless . if you are a
vampire lover, this could be the perfect show for a trip to the
theatre on Halloween.

Worth a peek.
